Field trips are important to help bridge the gap between education and hands-on experience. These trips provoke a sense of curiosity among the students. They begin to see that what they learn within the walls of the classroom.
Students of Grades 3 of Edify School, Kanakapura Main road, Bengaluru went on an outbound learning trip to the Butterfly Park, Bannerghatta National park on the 13th January 2023.
They were quite thrilled to look at all the greenery around them and the wide open spaces. The students spotted many colourful, beautiful butterflies. They also saw live caterpillars and cocoons. They were excited to see the giant butterflies, caterpillars and insects sculptures. A tropical setting was made there –humid climate, an artificial waterfall, a narrow walking bridge, lots of plants and shrubs are planted to attract butterflies. They learned about the mimicry and variation, and how the butterflies are among the first to invade land during the Devonian Period, about 400 million years ago.
Our little inquirers were happy to see the different spices of butterflies and other insects like the Grasshopper, Scorpion and moths.
Students were asked to observe the life cycle of the butterfly. They also saw a detailed Audio Visual show that was screened in the museum.
Students thoroughly enjoyed their field trip to The Butterfly Park, and it was a great learning experience for the students. After reaching back to school, they promptly wrote their reflections.
