Recognising the importance of reading and to mark the occasion of International Literacy Day, CBSE announced Celebration of Reading Week from 8 th September to 14th September 2020. The following are the activities which were conducted from primary to secondary grades to celebrate the Reading week and promote reading habits.
Activity name – Audio Story
Date – 8/09/2020
Grade- Gr 6-10
Audio story reading activity was conducted on 8th of September 2020 as a part of the reading week programme wherein the students made their audio stories from different genres of books like classic, fairy tales, historical fiction , literary fiction, comic stories etc.
Reading aloud helps students to learn how to use language to express their feelings and imagination; it improves their information processing skills, vocabulary, and comprehension.
Activity Name – Comic strip designing
Date – 8/09/2020 to 15/09/2020
Grade- Gr6-10
Comic strips often express messages or provide brief glances of events or stories. Key elements of a comic strip include character, setting, and plot — all conveyed in a few frames through a combination of pictures, captions, and dialogue.
Students from grade 6 to grade 10 engaged themselves in the comic strip designing activity wherein they expressed and showcased different characters, settings, emotions , stories and plots portrayed in different frames and pictures.
Activity name – Art integration -Integrating Reading and Fine Arts
Theme – ‘My favourite place’
Date- 9/09/2020
Grade – Grade 4
The goal of arts integration is to increase knowledge of a general subject area while concurrently fostering a greater understanding and appreciation of the fine and performing arts.
As a part of reading week, students of grade 4 engaged themselves in a creative process wherein they integrated art with reading on the theme ‘My favourite place’.
This activity provided an opportunity to the students to connect art with literary skills.

Recognizing the importance of reading, the CBSE Reading Week culminated on 10th September 2020 when the enthusiastic first graders had their virtual costume party.
The children dressed up as their favourite story characters and narrated a few sentences and short stories about each character they depicted.
The costume party proved to be a great learning experience for the students, it allowed them to think beyond the daily spheres of influence and gave them a platform to explore their hidden talents.
Activity name – Creative Reading games/ puzzle / Riddles
Date – 10/09/20
Grade -Grade3 -5
Young minds need to be fostered with something that gives them an opportunity to think. Puzzles /riddles for kids help them to improve their thinking ability and creativity. Riddles are fun and also provide an opportunity to learn.
Students of grade 3 – 5 put on their thinking caps and designed their own fun and creative riddles on Harry Potter, Stars and planets , Fabulous inventions etc…
Activity Name – Round Robin Stories
Grade – 2
Date – 11/09/2020
The students of gr2 (A, B and C) engaged themselves in the Round Robin stories where each participant used their imagination to give a humorous twist to the stories. The children were bright-eyed and peppy as the activity began. It was a world of laughter and fun for children.
Activity name- Story telling session based on moral values.

Grade – 3
Extending the theme of reading week, a story telling session on moral values was conducted on an online platform for grade3 students.
Stories with moral values inspired our third graders. The exercise created an interest towards books in many ways and also helped students raise their own self esteem and take greater responsibility for their behavior and learning.
Activity name – Story telling session on the theme ‘Let’s spread happiness ‘
Date – 11/09/2020
Grade – 4
As part of the reading week activity, students of grade 4 conducted a virtual storytelling session wherein they told the story ‘LET’S SPREAD HAPPINESS’.
The story was about a child named Tom who thanked the people around him showing his gratitude towards them by sharing and caring.
Students reflected upon the story and its moral values.
