The emotional wellbeing of children is just as important as their physical health. Good psychological health allows children and young people to develop the resilience to cope with whatever life throws at them and grow into well-rounded, healthy adults.
As a part of the World Mental Health Day Campaign, a special story telling session “Manodarpan” was organized. The basic objective of the program was to provide psychological support to the students.
Manodarpan is an initiative by Human Resource department, Government of India to ensure that children are feeling loved and safe.
Edify School, Kanakapura has taken an initiative in association with the Ministry of Education to encourage and educate all the students of gr 1 to gr 10 about mental health.
Students took part in activities like poster making, slogan and storytelling.
Online story telling sessions were conducted for the students of gr1 to gr10 as stories help us make ethical sense to our lives. Such sessions can provide a fun way learning for students.
Gr 1 &2 students witnessed an online story telling session. The title of the story was’
Taking a bath with the dog and other things that make me happy.’ The main character of the story is a little sad girl who i is in search for happiness. So, she starts asking everyone whomever she meets about happiness. Everyone give their own opinion about happiness. After a long search, she at last finds the answer to her questions! She finds out that she can find happiness in small things that she likes to do.. This story is a wise and witty meditation on true secrets to happiness.
The story telling session of grade3-5 students was also conducted on a virtual platform. The name of the story was ‘Lucy’s Blue Day’. Lucy is a very special little girl with magical hair. It changes colour with her emotions. If she is feeling happy, it is purple. If she is jealous, it will turn green. This charming story is the tale of when Lucy wakes up and her hair is blue, and she doesn’t understand why. She soon learns that it is ok not to be ok and we are in trouble or something is worrying us, we shouls always share our feelings with our parents and dear ones.
‘The Gift of Magi’. was the title of the online story telling session conducted for grade 6 -10 students. This thought provoking story tells of a young husband and wife and how they deal with the challenge of buying secret Christmas gifts for each other with very little money. The moral of this story was to always consider the consequences of your actions as they are determined to make the other person happy.
The main objective behind conducting these teaching learning sessions is to teach and educate the children to accept who they are and recognize what they are good at along with having a sense of belonging in their family, school and community.
